App slowdowns are often caused by outdated versions. Before anything else, check for an update:
iPhone: Open the App Store → tap your profile icon → scroll to Hiya Spam Blocker → tap Update if one is available
Android: Open the Google Play Store → tap your profile icon → Manage apps & device → update Hiya Spam Blocker if one is available
Force-close and reopen the app:
Swipe up from the bottom of your screen (or double-press the Home button on older iPhones) to open the app switcher
Find Hiya Spam Blocker and swipe it up to close
Reopen the app
Restart your device: Hold the side button + a volume button → slide to power off → wait 30 seconds → turn back on.
Some older versions of the app encountered slow performance when using the Lookup screen or typing in the keypad. Updating to the latest version is the primary fix.
Clear the app cache:
Go to Settings → Apps → Hiya
Tap Storage
Tap Clear Cache
Reopen the app
This removes temporary files without deleting your settings or data.
Check battery optimization: If Android is throttling Hiya Spam Blocker in the background, the app may feel sluggish when you open it. Find Hiya Spam Blocker in your device's battery or app settings and set it to Unrestricted or No restrictions (the exact label varies by manufacturer).
Force-stop the app:
Go to Settings → Apps → Hiya
Tap Force Stop
Reopen the app
Restart your device: A restart clears memory and can resolve persistent slowdowns.
Try uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Note that uninstalling will erase your block list, so take a screenshot of it first if you need to keep it. If the issue continues after reinstalling, use the in-app option to report a bug and include a description of what's slow.
