Android prevents all call management apps — including Hiya Spam Blocker — from fully hanging up on blocked calls. Instead, blocked calls are sent to voicemail. This is a limitation of the Android operating system; if Google changes this restriction in the future, full blocking may become available.
Apple also prevents call management apps from disconnecting blocked calls. They get sent to voicemail instead. If Apple changes this in the future, full blocking may become available.
In both cases, the calls are being blocked from ringing your phone — you just may see voicemails from blocked numbers.
Premium doesn’t remove the OS limitation above, but it does improve two things:
Automatic blocking: Free users can manually block specific numbers, which sends those calls to voicemail. Premium automatically blocks all calls Hiya Spam Blocker identifies as spam — so you don’t have to manage individual numbers.
Call Screener: If you have Premium, enabling Call Screener can significantly reduce spam voicemails. Call Screener answers unknown calls on your behalf and screens the caller — spam callers that don’t pass the screen are disconnected before they can leave a voicemail. Only callers who identify themselves can leave a voicemail in the app.
